Wellington: People utilized stream water crafts and tractors to help safeguard around 2,000 occupants of a New Zealand town after a waterway burst through a solid levee, flooding many homes and organizations.

Whakatane District Council Mayor Tony Bonne said the water was more than 1 meter (3.3 feet) somewhere down in a few homes and that one close-by waterway had achieved an unequaled record stature. He said some spilling had happened around the solid levee and groups had been fortifying it when "she simply let go."
